Conducting Food Defense Vulnerability Assessments and Identifying Effective Response Measures
Webcast
Recorded on:
03/12/2008 2:00 pm Eastern
Description:
Due to the ever present threat of tampering or other malicious, criminal, or terrorist action, preventing intentional contamination at a food production facility is as critical an issue as preventing unintentional contamination. The FDA, through departments like the Office of Food Defense, Communication and Response, provides guidance to food processors to minimize these risks within their production facilities.
This webcast will feature Jon Woody of the FDA who will provide a detailed overview of CARVER+Shock, an offensive targeting prioritization tool adapted from the military version (CARVER) for use in the food industry. The tool can be used to assess the vulnerabilities within a food production facility to an attack. It allows the user to think like an attacker to identify the most attractive targets for an attack. By conducting a CARVER + Shock assessment of a food production facility or process, the user can determine the most vulnerable points in their infrastructure, and focus resources on protecting the most susceptible points in their system. This webcast will also provide methods and practices that food processors can leverage to minimize risk in the event of intentional or unintentional contamination of a food product.
